I've been wanting a collection of natural births to read about to get me back in the birthing zone since it feels like it's been forever--this book did the trick! I thought I was pretty well aware of ways to stop unnecessary intervention, but I learned several new things in this book as well as some new positions I had never thought of. While there were women whose stories made me cringe when they didn't head to the hospital and decided to free birth, others made me realize that hospital births really aren't always necessary or even good for everyone. I’m not a freebirther, nor did this book persuade me to become one—though I have admiration for those who choose that path, it’s just not for me. I did learn some amazing new birth “tricks” that I didn’t know about before (like the placenta is more than just a gestational sac for the baby). Moore was very knowledgeable and judicious with her advice and experiences during the first part of the book and the second half of stories was just lovely. Mothers typically love to tell and hear birth stories so it was nice to have them compiled in one place. Also, it was reassuring to know that some of my behaviors that are not typically me but that manifest during labor are typical birth behaviors. Interesting read for mothers or women interested in freebirth and unassisted labor stories. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2019 )

I took my time with the last chapter because I didn’t want it to end. There is something incredible and powerful about the stories that shape our lives and these stories have that expression. Bree shared her own stories and journey just as openly as one would share them with a trusted friend and I felt like the ultimate confidant during each telling. This is a mind expanding read for anyone, no matter what way you choose or have chosen to birth in the past. Merely to witness the paths others have taken and to see the impact of those choices is in itself empowering. A must read for any person interested in birth and the power within. There is a ton of useful information and advice based in facts, not scare tactics. I loved reading all the stories of other freebirthers and how this choice made their experiences so special.
