Just wow. “Pilgrimage” chronicles Gerson’s months-long journey of faith, trust and courage told with astounding honesty and vulnerability. Yes, a travelogue of sorts with some locale descriptions and history—but so much more. Sometimes I couldn’t stop reading to find out what happens next; other times I had to stop to ponder and assimilate his powerful spiritual insights. “Pilgrimage” is an inspiring reminder to follow your heart—despite fear, anxiety, conventional wisdom or logic—and to trust where your heart leads you. The memoir, chronicling MDG’s journey over a ninety-three day period is a difficult read. It shatters our perceptions of what a “successful” author should be and look like. It challenges; it agitates; it provokes one to get out of one’s comfort zone and risk living. True living with all its moments of pain and joy. I cried reading Pilgrimage. It touched the deep spaces within me that reek of fear, distrust and sadness. But I felt fortunate to be guided in this journey through MDG’s compassionate and wise guidance. He is a Master writer and healer who leads one through the dark tunnels of one’s being into the light within that awaits the awakened and surrendered heart. MDG is a modern day mystic who walks his talk. His books should be held close to one’s heart, cherished like lovers who rattle your very being, while simultaneously empowering one to trust the vulnerable and resilient beauty of our own fragile spirits.
